Biography
My starting point is that I believe simplicity to be at the source of all forms of complexity in nature and in life, and my work is a pictorial or symbolic exploration of this fundamental idea. For me, the activity of photography is about finding space, order, simplicity, and design in the landscape - reducing images to their most basic elements to achieve a clear description of natural design and meaning. Although I identify with these attributes in the landscape personally, photography is my primary means of exploring the broader significance of this idea in the context of society and life in general.
Following from this, my photography develops the idea aesthetically: ‘that what one leaves out is equally or more important than what one includes’! Hence I experiment with space as much as with content in many compositions, and I’m constantly interested in how the use of space alters the intensity of meaning (derived from the subject) when composing images.
